I find drawing people totally engrossing. I like the particular atmosphere of a life drawing session and I usually work in charcoal when working from life. Working in oils for portraiture takes the whole thing to an even more mesmerizing level, where you find a whole array of colour on someone’s forehead! A while back, I created a series of large sketches from life, in charcoal or in oil, overlapping different stages of the pause to capture the movement of the model.
